Kauri Dieback
Kauri Dieback is a fungus-like disease specific to Kauri trees. It is spread through soil movement on footwear and equipment.
The disease is currently incurable and nearly all infected Kauri will die.
We don’t have this disease on Waiheke and we want to keep it that way.
- Please ensure all equipment and footwear brought from off-island is throughly cleaned
- Horses need to be brushed and hooves cleaned before departing for Waiheke
Please see the Kauri Dieback website for more information

Waka Ama Crews wanted!
The Waka Ama teams are opening two race events to the public. There will be an Open race and a Juniors (age 7-13) race. Each Waka will be helmed by a Waka Ama club member.
Can you get a team of 5 people together to paddle a Waka?
No training needed for the Open race, but Juniors will need a training session prior to race day. Your team of 5 (no individual entries please) needs to contact Heike Sonnenshien before March 28th.
